Gambling can certainly be termed as one of the most controversial sport in the world. More than the game, gambling is more renowned for its ill effects. The main reason for this is because of the high rate of gambling addiction that is prevalent all over the world. When individuals start gambling beyond the proper limits and beyond their capacity the problem of addiction is born. It has also been observed that individuals become addicts when they are coerced by their friends and peers to gamble more than they actually should. Peer pressure can act adversely for the individual and they can become gambling addicts. Keeping good company is the crux in the issue of overcoming gambling addiction.

Friends Matter

Individuals are known by the company they keep. This is extremely true about people of all ages. If individuals do not have good friends they are bound to get into bad habits and ruin their future. Peer pressure can force individuals to get into troublesome situations and issues that they would have avoided themselves. Habits like excess smoking, excess drinking, drug abuse and gambling addiction can easily take root if individuals do not ensure that they have good friends.

There is no doubt that a large number of people become gambling addicts just because they are under peer pressure to gamble more. To avoid being ridiculed by their friends, individuals try to gamble as much as their friends do even if it means great personal loss. This is the way people turn addicts even before they realize. Hence avoiding bad company is a must for every addict. He must be able to choose only good friends who can guide him on ways of overcoming addiction. Gambling addicts must break away from the circle of those people who force them into gambling. They must try to be friends with those individuals who have a healthy outlook towards life and who understand the ill effects of excess gambling. Individuals must realize that they are going the wrong way with their friends who are trying to force them into excess gambling. It is difficult to break away from the circle of old peers and friends. However, individuals must do it at the right time in order to prevent further damage due to gambling addiction.

Friends are an integral part of life and they play a vital role in making life beautiful. Individuals must ensure that their friends give them the same happiness and not a menace like addiction.
