Counseling



Counseling by a Certified Gambling Counselor who has completed a specific course of study in problem gambling treatment and has been certified for counseling people to get relief from gambling. At least one full time clinical staff member who is a Certified Gambling Counselor can help to overcome the problem of addiction to great amount.

Treatment

Using a combination of different types of therapy will effectively help with the gambling addiction. The therapist may recommend a combination of few things like assessment and evaluation, individual therapy, group therapy, educational classes, couple therapy, family therapy, psychiatric evaluation, gamblers Anonymous, financial counseling as well. These all helps a lot to overcome the gambling addiction. Gambling addiction is a progressive disease. In most people it begins slowly and grows until the victim's life becomes gradually out of control. As repeated efforts to gain control over the addiction fail, life for the obsessive gambler begins to fall apart. If the compulsive gambler could stop chasing losses, he would. All compulsive gamblers can stop gambling for a while. But most people need professional help to stop for life. Some people can receive help without the disruption of inpatient behavior treatment. They are able to enter recovery through the help of an Outpatient Rehabilitation program. This type of program does not require patients to take time off from work, leave their families or enter a sanatorium as an inpatient.

Other ways for counseling

There are many other ways of counseling. They are telephone counseling and support, crisis management and referral, referral to face to face counseling services, verbal information and education, written information posted upon request, relapse management.

Goal of counselors

The goals of the Gambling Addiction counselor Program include empowering clients to stop gambling, helping clients to develop and maintain a healthy support system too, Strengthening self-esteem and confidence so the patient no longer need to resort to gambling to avoid life's problems, introducing other forms of leisure and recreation to fill the void left by stopping gambling, developing a realistic money management and debt reduction plan, developing new problem solving skills as well, repairing family and other relationships that have been damaged by gambling are few major areas where counselors work to get the person out of gambling habit.
