The majority of us has at one time or another gone on a diet or at least has given to some thought to going on a diet. Still others realize they should go on a diet but do nothing about it. Every year, millions of Americans attempt to diet each and every year often failing miserably to lose weight or worse yet, they may end up losing a few pounds only to put it all back and then gain a few extra.

So why does this happen, what do we do that keeps ourselves from shedding those few extra pounds and why do the majority of diets fail? Nine times out of ten when a diet fails it isn’t that the actual diet or principle behind it doesn’t work, but rather that the person has failed to carry out what was needed correctly. The majority of people simply cheat, get fed up or simply don’t understand what’s expected of them or how to follow the diet to the tee. Here are 8 of the most popular common why we can’t lose weight.

Having too many late nights and not getting enough refreshing, precious sleep leads to a lack of adrenal regeneration and consequently, toxins build up in the liver. Try to make sure that you get 8 hours of sleep each night and whenever possible make sure that you are in bed by 10pm.

Always make sure that you get the recommended allowance of calories that your body needs, eating too few calories will not do you any good and won’t lead to losing weight faster. No one should EVER eat less than 1200 calories a day without the explicit advice of a physician.

Make sure that you get enough to drink. De-hydration will slow down the body’s metabolism and it is the metabolism that you want to work in order to burn off the calories.

If you take 25 minutes of exercise it will help you to hold the weight you are currently at but it will not help you to lose weight. During the first 25 minutes of exercising you are burning off only sugar not fat.

Always make sure that you have enough fiber in your diet, eating fiber helps to burn off the body fat, stabilize the insulin levels and to lose a few pounds of weight. Fresh fruit and veggies are an excellent source of fiber.

Not paying attention to the time of day when you are eating is a no no, eating late at night will not give your body time to digest the food and this is the time when your metabolism is at its slowest. Not watching the amount you are eating is also a sure way to fail on any diet, always try to eat good sized and recommended portions, eating salad before you main meal will help to fill you up as will drinking an 8oz glass of water before your main meal.

Always make sure you count the calories in everything that you eat, while fruit and veg are excellent for you and don’t have as many calories you have to remember they have some and you have to count them.

Finally always remember to calculate how many calories your body needs in order to remain fit and healthy, your body needs a certain amount of calories just to live, make sure you give it this or your metabolism with react and slow down, not allowing you to lose weight and you will also run out of energy.
