Embryo Transfer Why Is It Necessary

The possibility of having embryo transfer today has enabled many infertile couples to experience the joy of parenthood. This is specifically used in the artificial insemination for both humans and animals alike. The process is called In Vitro Fertilization (IVF); this involves inserting multiple embryos in the uterus of the female with the purpose of triggering a pregnancy.

Why is embryo transfer necessary? There are many, many reasons why this process may be applied. In humans, this is a boon for infertile couples. This is specifically helpful when (i) the sperm count is low and pregnancy cannot occur due to lack of contact between the egg and the sperm, and (ii) when the conditions of the woman's reproductive organs are such that they prevent fertilization though the eggs are okay.

In both these conditions, the embryo transfer would mean a new lease of life - literally speaking. Of course, in humans the uterus lining needs to be prepared before the embryo transfer is done so it is not rejected. This takes a good deal of medical procedure involving medicines and injections - however, when the baby is born through the IVF all the pains seem worth it.

There is another reason why embryo transfer is required - i.e. this is in many cases not only solving the procreation need of the couple but also, the psychological make up of the female. Quoting reported cases in Asiatic countries, where great stigma is attached to the woman who is unable to bear children - this embryo transfer is a gift of dignity and recognition in the society.

In certain societies, it is often based on women's barrenness that men are allowed to divorce them, or permitted to marry a second time in order to have a heir to their name. This is common in Muslim society and even Hindu communities where the father is expected by his community to have an heir for his property and name.

In America today, a lot of people are finding hope and experiencing the joy of parenthood because of technological advances that allow the possibility of embryo transfer.

The embryo transfer is great even for the livestock. It is often that such method is used for better stock breeding at the least cost. In this manner, the best genes are transferred and propagated through local varieties giving scope for people in rural areas to have best quality livestock and hence improve their economic status and quality of life.

This is especially applicable to livestock that is expensive to move and/or difficult to transfer from one place to another. This method allows the best quality stock to be available in multiple places at the same time with the least difficulties. Hence, there is cost efficiency and excellent results in breeding the livestock.

This technology is also excellent when it comes to breeding delicate wild animals such as panda bears, white tigers, or gorillas, which do not breed well in captivity. This method helps in breeding such animals and at the same allows the scientists to observe and record highly sensitive data that would have otherwise not been possible.

Overall, the technology of IVF has helped humans in many ways and it is hoped that with the further development in science it would bring even better alternatives to the exiting possibilities of procreation.
