About the gambling habit:
For many peoples in America gambling is nothing more than an innocent pastime. However for a growing number of casino goers especially the elderly people the pastime has become a dangerous addiction? It is growing as an increasingly popular pastime for the senior citizens. The consequences of this habit is of great concern and importance as most of the elderly people live on a fixed income and have a lot of free time too. This reasons makes gambling a common affair for them as they deal with loss of friends, family and independence. Psychologists and experts say that these makes them more vulnerable to the gambling which initially acts as a good pastime but later on turns out to be an addiction for them.
The first step to fight:
In a recent study conducted by the Pennsylvania State college of Medicine the organization found that in the year 1998, approximately 50 % of the of the seniors had gambled, which was a substantial increase from the 20 % of the senior citizens gambling in the year 1974. Many of them who are at the risk of developing an addiction to gambling may not be ready for Gamblers anonymous but many of them don't have a lot of money and spending on gambling could literally mean that they won't have left anything to buy medicines. Fortunately many prominent psychologists and psychiatrists that the problem of gambling can be solved have stated it. But the first stands of admitting the addiction have to be always made from the sufferers. Unless and until they admit and confess or discuss their problems nothing could be done against it.
Role of prayer:
Prayer is absolutely essential to quit not only gambling but also any other bad habit. We should not only pray for ourselves but also for the gambling addicts that they might find the support and help they need to break free of their addiction. One can also suggest the church pastor to preach a sermon, which addresses the issue of gambling from a biblical point of view. Indulging in regular prayer is the right key not only to raise mental strength against the addiction but also helps to raise awareness about the ill effects of the dangerous habit.

Gambling is a terrible addiction. My former boss was a successful attorney who lost everything because of gambling. It outrages me when gambling field trips are offered through churches. Older, lonely people wind up with a gambling problem, not "hitting the jackpot".
