In short it is a mental health disorder of impulse control. Gambling occurs when the gambler seeks to blot out some emotional life crisis. It is same as the numbing effect of the activity. People are tending to gamble for more singular outlets such as slot machines so that they can avoid human contact. Women tend to this type of gambling.
Learning to relax
It is significant that teens are about three times more likely to become addictive gamblers than adults. That is because children are more prone to stress. And at times they are not able to handle the stress. To overcome this problem they should learn to relax. Early education about the dangers of gambling can help to get over the problem. People can learn to relax in many ways:
1. Breathing Exercises: Deep breathing is an easy way to relax. It helps to oxygenate the blood, which activates the brain, relax muscles and quiet the mind.
2. Meditation: While meditation, brain enters an area of functioning that is similar to sleep. It releases certain hormones that promote health. Mental focus on nothing keeps mind from working excessively.
3. Visualizations: Start visualizing the things that you have to achieve in real life. Start imagining that you have achieved goals like becoming healthier and more relaxed. This will help to relax.
4. Self-hypnosis: This means communicating directly with your subconscious mind to enhance your abilities. Tell your mind to give up bad habits, feel less pain and relaxed.
5. Exercise: Exercise provides a distraction from stressful situations. It is an outlet for frustrations.
6. Muscle Relaxation: Start by tensing your muscle and then relaxing them. This can be done anywhere and will help you to relax more quickly and easily.
7. Yoga: It combines the practices of stress management techniques such as breathing, meditation, imagery and movement. It helps to build energy required for body.
