Low Cal Diet Bane For Diabetics
Having low cal and low carb food is the latest craze for weight loss, but in medical circles, the thing which is taking rounds is that low carb and low cal diet is good for diabetic people. The traditional diet mostly recommended for diabetics, has taken a backseat and is proven detrimental to the patients of diabetes. The reason being stated is that diabetes is a condition where sugar and starch are not properly absorbed from the blood stream, thus taking a low cal and low carb diet will actually be beneficial for the diabetics. When the body is malfunctioning, intake of excess carbohydrates will naturally be harmful.
What Is The Low Cal – Low Carb Diet
A low carb diet consists of carbs not more than 5% to 10% of your total intake of calories during the day. In this diet, emphasis is on consumption of more protein and fat so that the body gets proper energy and there is a feeling of fullness. The feeling of starvation is what drives us to have sugary food, carb loaded food. If our stomach is full, we will not think of eating all the time. The fullness effect can be achieved by having fiber-loaded food too. The catch is that if you are taking too much fat, it’s harmful for the health of your heart and arteries. Thus, avoiding carbs totally and piling on fat is also not advisable. Hence stick to a plan which is low in carbs as well as low in calories too.
Here, over-eating is not recommended. But you should try to balance out with healthier choice rather than just concentrating on avoiding carbs. You should have some nutritious food that contains vitamins, minerals, fiber in adequate quantity. Take help from your dietician, specially recommended for diabetic people.
The low cal food consists of fish, chicken, poultry, eggs, cheese, carrot, avocado, beans etc. But obese diabetic patients should try this diet under the supervision and guidance of their physician. The doctors will recommend a modified version of low carb and low cal diet for the diabetics.
Though, a new concept, low cal diet is here to stay because of its effectiveness. In weight loss, it’s very effective; you can lose pounds and inches quickly. For diabetics, it is the recommended diet as it restrains from having starchy and sugary food. However, to ward off any side effects of the low cal diet, one must make a wise choice of what are you eating. This will help you in having carbs and cals only that much which is required and will be beneficial in controlling the blood sugar too.
