Maternal And Infant Health
The government ensures promoting breast feeding as one of the best forms of nutrition to the infants for ensuring a good start. The baby gets all the nutrients required for him to develop rapidly from the breast milk. The health of the infant is by and large depended on the health of the mother. You should plan your pregnancy only if,
* You are mentally prepared for it
* You are physically fit and free from any diseases. If at all you suffer from some disease, get it treated first and then go for the pregnancy. By this, you can avoid abnormal abnormalities in your baby and complications in your pregnancy: thus giving birth to a physically fit baby.
* You are emotionally sound and active
* And last but not the least, economically safe to care for the baby’s needs and requirements.
If you fulfill all these conditions before going for your pregnancy, it will prove beneficial not only for you but also for the baby that is yet to be born.
During your pregnancy:
* Eat nutritionally rich balanced diet containing all the nutrients in adequate amounts. Have smaller meals 4 times a day instead of two large meals.
* Exercise regularly to keep the body and the muscles flexible. This also allows to ease your delivery.
* You should take the supplements of iron and calcium on a regular basis as advised by the doctor. This is to meet the ever increasing demands of iron and calcium during pregnancy as well as after delivery.
* Take enough rest; spend your leisure time in doing the activities of your interest. Do not overburden yourself with work loads. Work at your own pace, slowly and gradually.
* Never omit the vaccines recommended by the doctor during the pregnancy. It may prove harmful to the infant later on. Follow the schedule and dates accurately. Visit the clinic and get yourself and the baby checked monthly. The sonography and other tests identifies the baby and suggests immediate solutions, if any defect is found. Take care that your Hemoglobin levels do not go down the estimated rate i.e. 12-14 mg%.
Always remember that “A Healthy Infant resides in a Healthy Mother”.
