After labor and delivery mother and infant will be shifted to the room where they will be extended extra care. Trained nurses will be appointed to take of mother and infant. During the stay in hospital nurses will provide sufficient care. This will be helpful for the mother to know about the infant needs and to take care of the baby after they leave the hospital.

Mother and new born are recommended to stay in rooms. Baby can be with the support of mother or infant can be in nursery care and can be brought to the mother during feeding hours. Breast feeding is highly recommended for both mother and baby. It is better to start breast feeding in the hospitals. Babies must be fed at least 10 to 12 times in a day. Baby must be held in a cradle position.

Advantages of breast feeding the baby are many. Breast milk is considered to be the ideal and easy digestible food for the babies. Infants will not face any colic problems. Iron content present in breast milk is good for growing babies. Other than iron content it has numerous substances that directly help in promoting the developments of brain and nerves. Breast fed babies are not prone to allergies. Hospital visits and doctor appointments will be reduced as the breast milk will protect and safe guard the baby. High antibody levels will be at increased level and infants will respond to the vaccines.

Mothers also face numerous advantages when they breast feed the baby. Breast feeding is not expensive and is available easily. This prevents from unnecessary mixing or heating of milk and washing the bottles. Travelling is easier with the baby. Vaginal bleeding will be reduced effectively. Faster return of uterus to its normal size will be possible. There is a possibility of weight loss. Osteoporosis ovarian cancer and premenopausal breast will be reduced due to breast feeding.

New inventions such as infant warmers and infant incubators are also invented to give extra care and protection to the infants. Post natal care should be extended with care and caution as it will be effective to maintain proper health.
