Maternity Care

Family practitioners refrain from obstetrics practices and are not involved in child care. They extend their services only to the members of the family. In some cases mid-wives pave way for the doctors to overcome the obstacles that crop up on their way. Common philosophies prevalent may be favorable to both doctors and family members regarding maternity care.

Proper maternity care should be extended to the pregnant woman so that woman will be able to deliver a healthy infant. There are many causes for extending poor maternal services. The main cause is poverty. Determination of proper health care services is the prominent factor.

Appropriate care and timely action will prevent the occurrence of certain obstetric complications. Detection and management of complications in early stages will maternal and infant mortality. Care extended during antenatal period can be treated and occurrence of structural defects in infants can be totally eradicated.

Labor obstruction may give raise severe and serious complications that may lead to morbidity or even death. Risks are highly prevalent in adolescents due to the underdeveloped birth canals and pelvic bones. Prevention and treatment can reduce the asphyxia. Critical attention should be focused on the mother and new born during the postpartum period.

In most of the countries women aged in between 18 – 34 require antenatal care. Effective and simple techniques are available to relieve the pain of labor. Initiating labor pain by midwives and nurses proves to be very economical. Certain mechanisms are adopted that will progress the labor and reduce the pain. Negative reaction by the women due to pain will be reduced extensively. Guides are available in plenty which give a detail description and suggestions for relieving the pain during labor.

Care and services extended to maternity women seems to be on the increasing sides though negative points are still prevalent. In poor countries services rendered must be cost effective based on the demand and requirement.

Attendants with skills must be provided in plenty. Proper training and policy of infrastructure should be enhanced. Referral system with effective care and supply of medical accessories should be fulfilled. Extending skilled care with attendant will effectively reduce the child and the maternal mortality.
