Arrival of the baby is the greatest event in the married life. It is the most exciting moment for the woman when she comes to know that she is pregnant. It is very important for a pregnant woman to take proper care of her health for the healthy baby. It is the responsibility of all family members to take care of the health of pregnant woman.

Pregnant woman has special nutrition and health requirements. Her diet should be healthy and balanced because she eats for two people, for herself and for the baby who is growing inside the uterus. The diet of a pregnant woman should be observed. The food should be rich in vitamins. It is advised by the doctors to strictly avoid the alcohol intake during pregnancy.

The diet rich in folic acid is recommended. It is very essential for the development of the foetus. It is as essential as vitamin B and minerals like calcium. The diet should be rich in calcium. Calcium is very beneficial for the development and strengthening the bones of the foetus. Good sources of calcium are milk, cheese, yogurt, orange juice, dried beans and almonds.

You need to have more calories during pregnancy. The physicians advise to consume about 300 extra calories everyday. But these calories should be consumed by intake of healthy food not by junk food. It is normal to have some intense desires because your body needs extra nutrients. These cravings can be reduced by taking the prenatal vitamins. Add fruits, veggies, bran muffins, whole grains and yogurt in your diet.

Intake of sufficient iron is very necessary for the pregnant woman. Because it is needed for making the hemoglobin, the most important factor of the red blood cells. Some of the iron rich foods are red meat, eggs, dried fruits, green vegetables, salmon and blackstrap molasses.

As the months pass, there are several changes in the body. Fatigue is common during pregnancy. The body faces many stresses. The pregnant woman should get plenty of rest. Take many breaks during the routine work. Have a nap everyday.

Regular exercise is very essential during pregnancy. It helps to prevent the excessive weight gain, increase the energy, lessen the recovery time and reduce the pregnancy related problems.

Alcohol intake and cigarette smoking should be strictly avoided. Avoid the contact with the harmful chemicals. Regularly visit your gynecologist for health check-up. Get the essential blood tests done regularly to avoid further complications.
