Reasons Pipe Smokers Should Quit
How can you convince a pipe smoker to quit if they do not see the dangers of what they are smoking? This is due to the fact that most people do not consider pipe smoking to be a problem for the health of the smoker because not enough research has been done on this type of tobacco smoking. Further, the decline in popularity of pipe smoking drops it on the list of priorities when it comes to smoking research. Pipe smoking hit the height of its popularity n the middle 1960s. At that time it appealed mostly to young men in their twenties, but now the most likely men to smoke a pipe are in their middle forties. Nonetheless, these pipe smokers have been under the impression that pipe smoking is safer than cigarette smoking; they are wrong.
Government agencies are urging better labeling on the tobacco used by pipe smokers. Currently there are no warnings and this is wrong. The tobacco used in pipes has the same four thousand chemicals that the average cigarette has. It contains the same addictive substance, nicotine, and the same cancer causing agents as cigarettes. It just happens to be smoked differently. Many men think that smoking a pipe makes them look classy. They believe that the scented tobaccos smell better and so offend less people when they are smoking. They truly believe that smoking a pipe is healthier and that there are far fewer risks of disease and cancers.
Pipe smokers are divided into three groups. First there are those who do not inhale, then those who inhale a little and those who were cigarette smokers who have changed to pipe smoking and Inhale heartily. This last group is more likely to be at risk for lung cancer while the other two are more likely to be at risk for other smoke related cancers.
Pipe smokers will tell you that they do no smoker as much as those who enjoy a cigarette ten or twenty times daily. Yet, it is still a dangerous habit and those smoking pipes should know that pipe tobacco contains a certain amount of alkaline which makes it absorb the nicotine easier into the mouth lining and from there into the bloodstream. The only protection that can be given is if the person stops smoking. The longer they continue to smoke a pipe the more at risk for cancers of the mouth. This includes the lips, tongue, roof of the mouth and as well as the larynx. Medical research has proven that if it were not for the continued use of tobacco oral cancers would all but vanish.
Pipe smoking also causes the teeth to yellow and potential gum sores. There are several conditions of the tongue which appear to be caused by pipe smoking some of which discolor the tongue oddly even making it look black. A smoker’s teeth can be affected to the point of misshaping their smile. There are so many reasons to quit smoking pipes that it is time for pipe smokers to take a serious look at what they are risking.
