Hair loss is an embarrassing problem that many people suffer with every day. Depending on the severity of the problem and how frequently hair loss is occurring, you could experience various warning signs of baldness. This article will give you the most common symptoms of baldness so that you can spot them easily.

Hair thinning on the scalp

This is quite possibly one of the most frequent symptoms of baldness. For many men, and some women, thinning hair is the first sign of balding. Like some people, you may not even realize that your hair is thinning until it is pointed out to you by someone else. Some might notice their hair falling out more than normal, while brushing or washing it.

Receding hairline

This symptom of baldness occurs most frequently in men. It is more commonly noted by the “sliding” hairline in the middle of the forehead. For some men, their hairline could start receding on either side of the forehead, then gradually in the center of the scalp as well.

Balding at the crown

Women and men alike suffer from this symptom of baldness, known as balding at the crown. It usually begins with some thinning of the hair at the crown of the head. For many, the balding only occurs at the area on the head, and rarely spreads out to produce total balding.

Alopecia Areata

The symptoms of this type of balding usually consists of patchy hair loss. Men, women, and even children experience this symptom. This symptom of balding usually happens in cases where there is some type of skin illness, such as ringworm. The scalp becomes dry and flaky in patches and the hair falls out.

Hair shedding

While everyone sheds hair is another common symptom of baldness. This happens due to health issues like stress and anemia. Hair shedding also happens in situations where the person is suffering from an illness like cancer and receives chemotherapy or radiation treatment. In such cases, hair shedding commonly results in total hair loss, and then the hair eventually grows back again.
