Tips On Hangover Prevention
Those who love to go out drinking as part of their celebrations or to relieve stress from work, do so because they want to feel good and let off some steam. The last thing they want is to wake the next morning feeling like “heck”, and puking their guts out all over the bathroom floor. Knowing some handy tips about hangover prevention and implementing them BEFORE, during and after you have your alcohol will save you some grief.
Before Drinking Tips:
The #1 tip is to not to drink if you can’t handle the consequences. Most who enjoy alcohol, will not go for this tip, so move on to #2.
#2 tip is to know your limits, which is difficult if you are a first time drinker. After a few parties and other social gatherings you will begin to know just how much of each type of alcoholic beverage you can consume before you will start to feel that you are no longer in control. You limit is BEFORE you feel this way.
#3 Decide ahead of time what you will be drinking. Do not start out with beer and then switch to white wine, thinking that you will not get as drunk. Going from a dark alcoholic beverage to anything else is never a good idea. Do not mix your drink types. If you drink beer, stick with beer…a light beer is better than a dark one, in regards to hangover intensity.
#4 Drink plenty of water before going out to drink. Your body needs water as a general rule, but when you plan on drinking, water will diffuse some of the dehydrating effect of the alcohol.
#5 Eat a really good and nutritious meal before you start having fun with alcohol. Meals high in carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals as well as those that contain cheese are excellent ones to have before drinking alcohol.
Tips for During Your Alcoholic Event:
#1 – Do not let anyone buy you a different type of drink than you have already been drinking. If you are drinking vodka, stick to vodka. If you are drinking beer do not switch to white wine. Mixing your drink types can lead to a more intense hangover.
#2 – Drink water or fruit juice in between your alcoholic beverages. This will help to hydrate your body. It takes 200 ml of water to combat the affects of a 30 ml alcoholic drink.
#3 – It is also better to drink alcohol in with a carbonated drink because it absorbs the affect a little.
#4 – Stay away from sugar while you are drinking anything with alcohol in it. Sugar and alcohol do not mix and will intensify your hangover symptoms.
#5 – Snack on peanuts, popcorn or sandwiches while you are drinking alcohol. The food won’t absorb the alcohol but it will increase your metabolism that does activate the alcohol absorption and increases the rate at which your body will dispense the alcohol level in your bloodstream.
#6 – Enjoy the company, but don’t get sucked into having to keep up with them. Know your limit and stick to it. If you have already consumed your limit for alcohol ask for a virgin drink and just don’t let the others know it is nonalcoholic. This way you will still feel like part of the crowd without sharing their next day miseries.
After the Booze has Ended:
As soon as you get home, drink a full glass of plain water and take two Ibuprofen tablets before heading to bed. If you feel that you may have over done the alcohol than prepare all of your headache remedies now while you are still feeling good, because you won’t be feeling like reaching for things, opening containers and mixing Blood Mary’s in the morning.
Get as much rest as possible.
